About the Project: El Jibarito Series
The Soul of the Campo, Rebuilt for the Future.
Growing up in Puerto Rico, the silhouette of the Casita Jíbara is etched into our collective memory. With its steep gabled roofs, welcoming balconies, and humble footprint, it represents a lifestyle of simplicity, connection to the land, and resilience.
However, as we face more intense tropical storms and the evolution of modern living, the traditional wooden structures of our ancestors are disappearing. In their place, we often see “concrete boxes” that provide safety but lose the architectural spirit of our island.
The El Jibarito Series is an architectural croquis (sketch and plan) collection designed to bridge this gap. We are reimagining the iconic Jíbaro aesthetic using reinforced concrete, creating homes that are as beautiful and culturally significant as they are hurricane-resistant.
Why Concrete?
In the Caribbean, concrete is more than a building material—it is peace of mind. By translating the light, airy feeling of the traditional Jíbaro house into a concrete medium, we offer:
- Climate Resilience: Structures built to withstand Category 5 winds.
- Thermal Mass: Using modern design to keep interiors cool naturally.
- Low Maintenance: Homes that resist termites, humidity, and the test of time.
The Design Language
Each plan in the El Jibarito Series focuses on three core pillars:
- The Iconic Profile: Maintaining the high-pitched roofs and “elevated” look that define the mountain aesthetic.
- Tropical Ventilation: Strategic placement of windows and quiebrasoles (sunshades) to invite the breeze.
- Modern Minimalism: Open-concept interiors that maximize small footprints, making homeownership more accessible and sustainable.
Key Architectural Pillars
- The Elevated Foundation: Moving beyond just flood prevention; it’s about airflow, preserving the natural topography, and creating that “floating” silhouette.
- The Iconic Balcón: Designing it as the “heart” of the home—the transition between the private interior and the social exterior.
- Roof Evolution: Offering a catalog that ranges from the traditional Gable/Hip roofs (classic) to Monopitch/Shed roofs (modern/solar-ready).
- Biophilic Integration: (in some models) Including internal courtyards or “green pockets” that allow the mountain or coastal air to flow through the house.

Serie El Jibarito El alma del campo, reconstruida para el futuro.
Creciendo en Puerto Rico, la silueta de la Casita Jíbara está grabada en nuestra memoria colectiva. Con sus techos a dos aguas, balcones acogedores y huella modesta, representa un estilo de vida de sencillez, conexión con la tierra y resiliencia.
Sin embargo, frente a tormentas tropicales cada vez más intensas y la evolución de la vida moderna, las estructuras tradicionales de madera de nuestros antepasados están desapareciendo. En su lugar, a menudo vemos “cajas de concreto” que brindan seguridad, pero pierden el espíritu arquitectónico de nuestra isla.
La Serie El Jibarito es una colección de croquis arquitectónicos (bocetos y planos) diseñada para cerrar esa brecha. Estamos reimaginando la estética icónica del jíbaro utilizando concreto reforzado, creando hogares que sean tan hermosos y culturalmente significativos como resistentes a los huracanes.
¿Por qué concreto?
En el Caribe, el concreto es más que un material de construcción: es tranquilidad. Al traducir la sensación ligera y abierta de la casa jíbara tradicional a un medio de concreto, ofrecemos:
• Resiliencia Climática: Estructuras diseñadas para resistir vientos de categoría 5.
• Masa Térmica: Uso de diseño moderno para mantener los interiores naturalmente frescos.
• Bajo Mantenimiento: Hogares que resisten termitas, humedad y el paso del tiempo.
El Lenguaje de Diseño
Cada plano en la Serie El Jibarito se enfoca en tres pilares fundamentales:
• El Perfil Icónico: Mantener los techos altos a dos aguas y la apariencia “elevada” que define la estética montañosa.
• Ventilación Tropical: Ubicación estratégica de ventanas y quiebrasoles para invitar la brisa.
• Minimalismo Moderno: Interiores de concepto abierto que maximizan huellas pequeñas, haciendo la vivienda más accesible y sostenible.
Pilares Arquitectónicos Clave
• La Fundación Elevada: Más allá de la prevención de inundaciones; se trata de promover la ventilación, preservar la topografía natural y crear esa silueta “flotante”.
• El Balcón Icónico: Diseñado como el “corazón” del hogar—la transición entre el interior privado y el exterior social.
• Evolución del Techo: Un catálogo que va desde los techos a dos aguas o a cuatro aguas (clásicos) hasta los techos monoinclinados o shed (modernos y listos para energía solar).
• Integración Biofílica: (en algunos modelos) Inclusión de patios internos o “bolsillos verdes” que permiten que el aire de la montaña o la costa fluya a través de la casa.
Por Qué Esto Importa Ahora En una era de temperaturas en aumento y una necesidad urgente de vivir de manera sostenible, la casa jíbara ofrece una solución. Al utilizar técnicas de enfriamiento pasivo y honrar la topografía de nuestra isla, podemos crear hogares más frescos, más económicos de mantener y profundamente conectados con nuestra historia.
